Abhiru Raut

Abhiru Raut, University High School

Abhiru Raut was born and raised in the the USA. He has an infusion of Indian culture within him due to his family’s roots. He is is a full time student a Normal Community High School. Abhiru loves playing chess and many more sports. He also likes hanging out with his friends. Abhiru looks at life positively every day and hopes that everyday is a greater day. He likes to make people laugh and give out a positive vibe. Overall Abhiru believes he can make the world a greater place with a team effort and give a positive impact on his peers.


Ajiltesh Muppuru, Normal Community High School

Ajitesh Muppuru or Aji as he now calls himself, was born in a suburb of Detroit. He’s in a pretty great high school up north busy with school and sports and more school. In his free time, he likes watching a good tv show or maybe even a long bike ride if it’s nice out. Though he doesn’t clearly know what he wants to do in the future, he wants to dabble in a little bit of everything before he finds something he truly enjoys.

Anniah Watson, Normal West High School

I was born and raised in Bloomington, IL, and I live with my two sisters, mother, and dog. I’m a senior at Normal West High School, and i’m involved with different clubs, some include: Girls Who Code, Track&Field, Helping Youth Progress and Excel (H.Y.PE), and Not In Our School. When I’m not busy with school work or clubs, I love to shop, spend time with my family and friends, and watch funny videos. My favorite thing to do is laugh, keep a positive mind, and be around positive people. I enjoy challenges and people. I like advocating for people who can’t advocate for themselves, I’m a strong believer in equality of the sexes and races. I believe a women can do whatever a man can do, and I believe that regardless of race, ethnicity,religion or culture that we are all human and we are all equal. I believe that we all having a calling when we are born and I’m still trying to figure mine out, but I know that my calling has to do with helping and empowering others.

Anoushka Banerjee, Normal Community High School

I was born in India and moved here when I was five. I went to elementary school, then middle school, and I am now in high school. I have in the past year interested in being a obstetrics gynecologist, and I am taking steps to getting there. Other than school I love to play the piano and the violin, I absolutely love to read, I like to draw (especially zentangles), and I like to spend time with my friends whether it be inside or outside of school. Overall I am a person who likes to experience new things and look towards the future.

Anusha Bhojanam, Normal Community High School

Anusha Bhojanam was born in India, but has spent most of her life in the United States. She loves to read and write, and is a free spirit when it comes to her imagination.  She loves music and rocks out on her viola every so often. Some of her hobbies include reading, writing and making bracelets. She also likes to hang out with her friends and play trivia games.  Anusha is a freshman at Normal Community High School, and when she grows up she would like to go into a science related field. She’d like to help as many people as she can.  Making the lives of other people better is always on the forefront of Anusha’s mind.

Carys Lovell, Bloomington High School

Carys Lovell attends Bloomington High School, and she is in her sophomore year. She loves to get involved in as many ways as possible. At school she does lots of things such as: drama, key club, student council, promise council, French club, and band. Music is a big part of her life, and outside of school she takes clarinet and piano lessons. With all of the clubs and activities she is in, she is very busy, but she loves it. Volunteering is definitely a newfound passion of hers now that she is in high school, and there are more opportunities to help out. Whatever she can do, whether it’s making a card, gathering supplies, or doing community service, Carys hopes that she can make a positive impact on her community.


Divya Bhookya, Kingsley Junior High School

Divya Bhookya was born and raised in the US. She is a Freshmen at Normal Community High School. Divya has been doing a traditional Indian dance, Bharatnatyam for 9 years. She enjoys dancing, listening to music, and being with her friends. Divya enjoys the American and as well the Indian culture. She is an outgoing person and likes animals. Divya wants to help people in need and stop inequality in the future. Others would describe her as caring, compassionate, hardworking, and a positive person.

Isaiah Crews, Bloomington High School

I come from places I don’t understand and roots that I have a hard time-relating to… a social and racial(?) butterfly. I want to be able to do the “impossible” and find power in forms other than strength. I try to make friends one at a time, one after another, in hopes of finding that one best friend, although it has been difficult over these last 16 years. My name is Isaiah. I know that means something, but I have yet to find out. I’ve finally found my place here at IMSA… I’m always just slightly on edge, here. I have to stay on my toes, and I can’t throw away my shot!

Logan Smith, Regional Alternative School

Hi, I’m Logan Smith and I was born and raised in Normal Illinois. The town’s two sides have shown me a lot in my 17 years, I love how you can go from moderate city college town to farmland as far as the eye can see, it can really open your eyes as to how much is really out there, I have what I would call a unique educational experience, I started out a Trinity Lutheran, and then went to Chiddix Junior High for my 7th and 8th grade years, I moved on to Normal Community for my Freshman and sophomore years, only to continue at the Regional Alterative school. I plan to stay in this community throughout my life, I am very excited for my future!

Mantra Dave, Normal Community High School

Mantra Dave is truly geographical. From when he was very little, he has been fascinated with the world around us and has transformed that into a passion for geography. Twice winning the Illinois State Geographic Bee and placing at Nationals, he believes that geography is an ideal lens through which to examine our world. While not studying or learning geography, he loves to read, write, play tennis, violin, and with his friends.

Nachiketh Rotte, Normal Community High School

Being born and raised in India for the first 5 years of his life and moving to the U.S. at a young age, Nachiketh Rotte has developed a lot from his 16 years of living. His experience of education and lifestyle in the U.S. and values of life and relationships carried with from India have greatly contributed to molding him as a moral and ethical person. Currently a junior at Normal Community High School, Nachiketh is a very social and active person among his diversified group of friends and all people in his daily life. He enjoys playing tennis and basketball with his friends and strives to work hard in both, athletic and educational, fields. Being a very outgoing and ambitious person, he works very hard and has developed great networking skills. He desires to achieve happiness while also bringing betterment in his community and humplike in India.

Neha Tummala, Normal Community High School

Neha Tummala was born in India but was raised in Bloomington-Normal for the majority of her life. Because of this, Neha has learned to love and embrace both cultures and is heavily influenced by both. Neha is currently a junior at Normal Community High School and plans on majoring in Psychology, in college. Some of her passions include, painting, music, biking, swimming, and working with small children. She loves connecting with her friends, trying out new foods and experiences, and exploring nature. In the future, Neha would like to travel the world and make a positive difference in it.

Nikitha Mothikuru, Normal Community High School

Nikitha Mothikuru was born in India and moved to the US when she was just nine months old! The two cultures work together in combination and influence her life greatly. A 16-year-old junior at Normal Community High School, Nikitha immerses herself in extracurriculars. Because Nikitha has always been the sort of person to lend a hand to those in need, she is in Key Club, a student-led organization whose goal is to encourage leadership through helping others. She is also in Peer Leadership, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), and currently holds the position of Treasurer in her school’s student council. Nikitha’s other interests include reading, traveling, dancing, and spending time with her family and friends. Nikitha lives for the future and spends every waking moment preparing for it with the support of her family and friends.

Rumeysa Aydogdu, Bloomington High School

Rumeysa Aydogdu is a turkish hijabi who is every so often finding new adventures to do. Although she is very active at her school and volunteers at her community, she always has time to write and read at her house. Other than her love for science and math, she hopes one day that she can become a superhero, not a superwoman from the comics, but her own version of a superwoman even if it means saving a single person. The world has become a complicated puzzle. She hopes to see through ropes of life of studying different cultures, how life is like from your average human to another person in a third world country. In addition to her witty puns and outgoing personality, She hopes that one day she can find her true self through different doors.

Sanjana Satish, University High School

Sanjana Satish is a freshman at University High School. Sanjana’s hobbies and passions reside in Indian Classical Dance, piano, tennis, and arts and crafts. She has been learning classical dance for ten years and playing the piano for six years, while receiving a gold medal in the Piano Guild Exam for four years. Sanjana is also actively involved in the community through the McLean County Diversity Project. As another aspect of being involved in the community, she has volunteered in numerous places, such as the Children’s Discovery Museum over the summer and for the AMBUCS ramp building service for two years. When she grows up, Sanjana would like to pursue her career as a pediatrician as she loves working with kids and helping others.

Sankalp Amaravadi, Normal Community High School

My name is Sankalp. My family is from India, but I live in the US. I am a high school junior who loves cars, computers, food, animals, relaxing and having fun. I would like to go to a college with an mechanical engineering school. I am your average computer techie, obsessing over the new gadgets, the newest computer hardware, newest car models and the newest movies by JJ Abrams- I’m a fan of Abrams. My passions and hobbies include just about any technology, flying, tinkering with computers, cars, gardening, watching anything made by JJ Abrams, collecting cars and school projects and spending time with family and friends. My true passion is to help out others and put others needs above mine. My ultimate goal is to make others more positive.

Savannah Karch, Normal Community High School

My name is Savannah Karch and I have lived in Illinois my whole life but have been fortunate enough to have traveled and experience many other cultures. my family is very supportive of everything that I do and because of this I have been able to grow into the leader that I am today. I am naturally a hardworking person and enjoy having things to do and to keep me busy. my value in trust has made me a responsible person because I always follow through with what I say I am going to do. I also like to create deep and meaningful relationships with the people around me and am also able to maintain these relationships because I encourage unity within those groups. my passion in life is to physically help people by becoming a nurse and to spiritually help people find Jesus Christ.

Shreeya Malpani, University High School

Shreeya Malpani is a sophomore at University High School. Being born in India and raised in America, Shreeya has been exposed to many cultures and has learned to appreciate every cultures uniqueness. She has also able to keep in touch with her Indian roots through her passion for Indian classical dance, which she has been learning since age 5, and is now getting ready for her solo debut. She also has an interest in religion and world studies, and has been learning one of the oldest languages in the world, Sanskrit, which is the root of many languages. Through her cultured background she hopes to inform more people about her culture as well as others. It is very important to Shreeya that she as well as her peers are well informed in order to contribute more to the society. Shreeya’s hobbies include running cross country for her school, biking, and spending time with her friends. Shreeya is a member of senate and the rotary club at U-high. Volunteering is one of Shreeya’s favorite things to do, and she enjoys tutoring kids at Western Avenue Community Center. The most important thing to Shreeya is that she makes the most out of her opportunities to make a difference, no matter how small or big.

Skylar Holland, Normal Community High School

I has been all around the U.S. discovering all the things that make up the different communities. This has helped me get a greater view of the world around me and what I can do to make it better. I am very passionate about social issues and they very much so make up a huge part of my life by trying to help others. my hobbies and passions include reading, writing, helping others, and working on my organization Project P.O.C. (Protect Our Children). Overall, I find the most joy in trying to solve problems that will make life better and easier for others. I want to be able to make a difference in the world or even just my community. Change always has to start somewhere.

Sriya Darsi, Bloomington High School

I am Sriya Darsi. I was born and raised in Bloomington,Il. My parents are from india which showed me a perspective in that culture. I am a freshman and I go to Blooming High School. I enjoy being in a lot of after school activities. I am in marching band, tennis,student council and hope to join other activities later on. In my spare time I like to read books, draw, ride my bike around my neighborhood, travel and see different places and to have fun with my friends and family. I also love to volunteer. I have volunteered at the children’s discovery museum in the summer, different events, and have also volunteered at the Illinois special olympics. They were all a lot of fun. I love helping people and want to continue helping other in anyway I can.

Thriambak Giriprakash, Normal Community High school

Thriambak is a person who has experience living in places outside of the US. He came to the US at the age of 11 months. For the first few years of living in the US, his family awaited for the notice that they were being sent back to India. But it never came. Thriambak, is good at talking with people and believes that the government budget should be spent on things that would better humanity as a whole instead of finding better ways to kill each other.

Vishnu Anagani, University High School

I was born in Hyderabad, India and moved to the U.S. when I was two months old. I grew up mostly in the U.S. and continued my education here itself. Every time I visit India it sparks my mind. “So many homeless people, kids working, many people begging, etc,”I think about. One of the main problems I think is the diseases that are spreading and how people can’t afford paying for insurance and hospital bills. I want to create a chain of hospitals that run free service to help those in need. Some of my hobbies are playing basketball, tennis, and chess; fishing, exercising; and playing NBA 2K16(a basketball game on the Play Station 4). Everyday I think about my passion and that is to help people in need and make some positive changes in this world that will benefit him and many others.
